2013 Hula Hoop Contest
Little Man Ice Cream Will Host 4th Annual Hula Hooping Contest September 8th
DENVER, CO – Little Man Ice Cream will host its 4th Annual Hula Hoop Contest September 8, 2013, with a focus on promoting fitness among school-aged kids.
This year’s contest will feature students from Denver elementary schools competing by age group in a variety of categories – from style and skill to best costume. Competitors will vie for Elitch Gardens and Downtown Aquarium passes, tickets to Justin Timberlake’s concert at the Pepsi Center in January and free ice cream for one year.
Registration will begin at 1 p.m. and the competition will kick off at 2:30 p.m. at Little Man’s landmark location at 2620 16th St., Denver. Proceeds from the $5 application fee will benefit physical education programs at Brown, Edison, Sandoval, Skinner, Valdez and North High School.
“We can’t think of a better way to build community than by getting local kids off the couch and moving for a good cause,” said Little Man Manager Loren Martinez.
Inspired by vintage Coney Island hot dog-shaped stands, Little Man’s unique 28-foot tall milk can opened its doors in 2008 in Denver’s LoHi neighborhood. The shop’s ice cream, gelato and sorbet are hand-made with some of the finest, locally sourced ingredients possible and produced one small batch at a time to ensure quality.
Little Man’s goal is to serve as a leader in the community, both locally and globally. The shop prides itself on providing patrons with a vintage experience and hosts a variety of events to connect neighbors, including pancake breakfasts, local musical performances and a farmer’s market.
Through the “Scoop for Scoop” program, Little Man has provided donations for villages in Peru, Cambodia, Ethiopia and Myanmar. For every scoop of ice cream Little Man sells, one scoop of rice or beans is donated to a community in need somewhere in the world. Since its opening, the shop has donated more than 800,000 scoops of food.
